Finding your Skin Type

Understanding your skin type is important in knowing how to care for it as different skin types - normal, oily, combination, dry, mature, sensitive - have different needs.

Once you know what your skin type is you are able to give it the care and protection it needs to be healthy, vibrant and young looking for years to come.

Which Skin Type sounds like you?

Dry Skin

tends to appear dull and often feels tight without much elasticity. It can be quite rough or flaky in areas. It may even become itchy or irritated. Dry skin May be prone to more visible fine lines.

If not long after cleansing your skin feels tight and appears dull and flaky then your skin is on the Dry side.

Oily Skin

Produces an excess of Sebum (skins natural oils) that cause the skin to feel greasy and appear shiny - more so around the nose, forehead and chin which we call the T-Zone. If your skin is oily you may be prone to enlarged pores and breakouts.

If not long after cleansing your whole face appears shiny then you probably have oily skin.

Combination Skin

As you’ve probably figured out, is a mixture of oily skin - commonly at the T-Zone with the cheeks and jaw areas being either dry or normal.

If not long after cleansing you notice only your T-zone being shiny and feeling oily whilst your cheeks and jaw area feels normal or tight then this skin type is probably you.

Sensitive Skin

Can be any of the above skin types and may also be prone to inflammation and appear red. It can feel itchy or even feel like it’s burning in some cases. Sensitive skins react easily to the environment and external irritants such as fragrances and certain ingredients in makeup and skin care. (Always good to do a patch test before using a new product on this type of skin)

Determining what triggers your sensitivity and avoiding products which contain those specific ingredients may take time but is hugely helpful. Using natural products which have less ingredients and less allergens in them is a positive step in combatting sensitive skin; as is altering your environment to reduce your exposure to triggering agents.

Normal Skin

If you are fortunate enough to be one of the few who have a normal skin type CONGRATULATIONS 🎉 your skin is smooth and balanced, feeling neither dry or oily, flaky or greasy, no breakouts or fine lines. Nice tight pores and is less likely to be prone to sensitivities or blemishes. However, it is still important to take good care of your skin with the right skincare to avoid premature ageing and skin problems. And as I mentioned before lifestyle is important so be naughty in moderation and always remember self-care is self-love xxx
